CD Reviews

Ingobert Waltenberger, Online Merker (02/06/2020)

“The Croatian chief conductor of the Munich Radio Orchestra, acting since the 2017/2018 season, Ivan Repušić, carefully extends the repertoire of the southern German orchestra of sumptuous sound with works of contemporary music. (…) The intensity of the live recording of February 2020 from the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Munich, in collaboration with Zagreb probably also due to the current Croatian EU Council Presidency, shows the commitment of the conductor (who attended the first performance of the work in Zadar at the age of 14) and all the performers. Especially the incredibly precise Bavarian Radio Choir conveying the spiritual message of the work and the four soloists (Kristina Kolar, soprano, Annika Schlicht, mezzo, Eric Laporte, tenor, and Ljubomir Puškarić, bass) are highly impressive in their tightly knit network of speech and counter-speech.”

Remy Franck, Pizzicato (01/08/2020)

“So this CD allows us not only to discover a truly outstanding work [Croatian Glagolitic Requiem], but also to hear this music in a sensitive, gripping interpretation. Repušić enhances the music’s impact through emotional intensity, showing how the composer wins a surprising meaning from the Requiem text and lets it appear in a special light. In his interpretation Repušić is best supported by good soloists, the excellent choir of the Bavarian Radio and the very committed Munich Radio Orchestra.”

Wolfgang Birtel, das Orchester (February / 2021)

“Ivan Repušić (…) creates a forceful tableau of colour and expression with this ensemble and the attentively singing Bavarian Radio Choir, ranging from eerie unisono pianissimos to powerful choral and orchestral eruptions, permeated with strong crescendo and contrast effects.”
